Breadman BK1200SS Review: Is It The Last Breadman Standing?

Breadman used to have a variety of bread maker machines available, but many of them are no longer on the market. If you’re looking for a new option, consider the Breadman BK1200SS. This 2-pound bread machine offers 12 menu programs and features like a 13-hour delay timer, a 1-hour keep warm function, three crust colors, and two loaf sizes. Keep in mind, though, that it doesn’t come with an automatic dispenser. In this review, I’ll address some common questions and compare the BK1200SS to other Breadman models.

How many settings does the Breadman BK1200SS have to offer?

The Breadman BK1200SS model comes with a variety of menu settings, such as quick bread, low-carb, and gluten-free loaves. Below, I will provide a list of all the available program options.

  1. White
  2. French
  3. Whole Wheat
  4. Rapid
  5. Sweet Bread
  6. Quick Bread
  7. Low Carb
  8. Gluten Free
  9. Dough
  10. Jam
  11. Bake
  12. Cake

It’s interesting to note that the Bake setting is not placed at the very end, but instead, the Cake program holds that position. Nevertheless, as you can see from the list above, the Breadman BK1200SS offers a wide range of bread making programs that you would typically find in a modern bread machine. Additionally, it also includes menu options for making dough, jam, and cake.

Which loaf sizes does this Breadman bread maker support?

The Breadman BK1200SS is different from other bread machines of its size, as it does not offer a 1-pound loaf option. Instead, you can choose between a 1.5-pound or a 2-pound loaf size.

If you occasionally prefer baking a smaller 1-pound loaf, you might want to consider another 2-pound bread machine like the Hamilton Beach 29987 bread maker, which provides three loaf size options. You can read my review of the Hamilton Beach 29987 by clicking here.

Breadman BK1200SS vs. BK2000B Bakery Pro Bread Machine

Breadman BK2000B
The Breadman BK200B had collapsible paddles and an automatic dispenser.

I wrote one of my first bread machine reviews on the Breadman BK2000B model. It was a truly unique machine at the time, and it still holds some uniqueness today. What made it stand out was the inclusion of two smaller baking pans, allowing you to bake two different types of one pound bread loaves simultaneously. It was truly incredible! Additionally, it had a larger baking pan for a single loaf up to 2.5 pounds.

Another rare feature was the two collapsible kneading paddles. On top of that, it had an automatic fruit and nut dispenser and a 15-hour delayed start function. With 13 menu programs, including Gluten Free and Low Carb options, this bread machine had all the bells and whistles. Unfortunately, it seems to be currently unavailable, although you might still find it listed on the Breadman website.

It’s a shame that the BK2000B review I wrote years ago is no longer relevant. However, the Breadman BK1200SS is a good alternative, even though it lacks collapsible kneading paddles, a fruit and nut dispenser, and the ability to bake a 1 pound loaf. In terms of menu settings, these two machines are quite similar, except for the Rapid Whole Wheat option. Nevertheless, the availability of the BK2000B model is limited now, so if you want to own a Breadman machine, you’ll have to settle for the BK1200SS model.

Breadman BK1200SS vs. TR2500BC Convection Bread Machine

Breadman TR2500BC
The Breadman TR2500BC had a convection fan.

Cuisinart isn’t the sole company that offered a convection bread maker. The Cuisinart CBK-200 is no longer in production, but you can now look at the Cuisinart CBK-210 model for a bread machine with convection capabilities. Read my review of the CBK-210 here.

The Breadman TR2500BC was a 2-pound convection bread machine with 16 menu functions, three loaf sizes, an automatic fruit and nut dispenser, and a convection fan. Unfortunately, the TR2500BC model is no longer on the market.

Breadman BK1200SS vs. TR520

Breadman TR520
Breadman TR520: “They call me Mellow Yellow.”

The next comparison I will be making is between the BK1200SS and the TR520, which is likely the oldest Breadman 2-pound bread machine I am familiar with. This particular Breadman model features a yellow control panel background, which is not to my liking. I personally prefer a black, white, or stainless steel background.

The TR520 model only had 8 functions: Basic, Fast Bake, French, Whole Wheat, Sweet, Quick Bread, Dough, and Bake Only. It did not offer any setting for making gluten-free bread or low-carb baked goods. Like most other bread machines, it provided three crust color options, three loaf size options, and a 13-hour delay timer. It did not come with a fruit and nut dispenser, but it did have an audible signal for when you could add raisins or nuts.

Despite these limitations, it was still able to bake a decent loaf of bread, although it is no longer available for purchase. You can still check out my review of the TR520, but it may not be very useful since the model has likely been discontinued by the manufacturer.

What about the Breadman BK1050S?

Breadman BK1050S
The Breadman BK1050S has been dispensed with, and is no longer available.

I’m not sure what happened to the BK1050S model. It used to have 14 menu program settings, a collapsible kneading paddle, and an automatic fruit and nut dispenser. A few years back, I wrote a review of the Breadman BK1050S, which you can still find here.

I tried searching for it online, but all I could find was the BK1060S model on the Breadman website. It seems like the BK1050S has vanished into thin air, never to return. Maybe it was discontinued due to some customers not liking the collapsible paddle. It’s strange to see so many of the bread machines I reviewed disappearing.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the Breadman BK1200SS pretty much delivers on its promise of baking 1.5-pound or 2-pound loaves of bread with light, medium, or dark crust options. It’s versatile enough to make dough or jam as well.

While I can’t say for sure, it seems to be a solid bread maker. Users generally agree that it bakes delicious bread, saves them time and effort, and includes a few useful recipes.

If you’re in the market for a Breadman machine, the BK1200SS appears to be the last Breadman bread maker standing, as previous models are no longer on the market. You might still find the Breadman BK1200SS on Amazon (paid link).
