Are you a single person? Are you married without children? Small family? Do you want a mini bread maker that makes a small loaf size? Here are the results of my quest to find mini bread makers that can make small 1-pound bread loaves.
Zojirushi BB-HAC10 1-Pound Loaf Mini Bread Maker
This small bread machine by Zojirushi is smaller than most bread makers. The Zojirushi BB-HAC10 mini bread maker is 8-1/2 inches wide, 11-1/4 inches deep and 12-1/4 inches high. It bakes a 1-pound bread loaf in its vertical shape bread pan. It cannot bake bigger loaf sizes.
The best feature is its small size, which saves space if you have a small kitchen. It is suitable for a single person, couple or a small family of three individuals. Its limited size might someday be a disadvantage if you ever want to bake bigger bread loaves.
The Zojirushi BB-HAC10 has the following menu courses:
- Basic (Regular/Firm)
- Soft
- Quick Baking
- French Bread
- Dough Setting
- Cookie/Pasta Dough
- Cake
- Jam
You use the mode select key to select the bread making courses. Note that the cookie, cake and jam courses have their own separate buttons.
You may use its dough setting to prepare pizza dough for about one pizza crust. The bread machine needs almost two hours to knead, rise and prepare the pizza dough.
The Zojirushi BB-HAC10 does not have a gluten-free setting for making gluten-free bread loaves. Nevertheless, you could use its quick bread cycle and a 1-lb gluten-free bread recipe to make a gluten-free bread loaf.
You can use a search engine to find 1-lb bread machine recipes from around the World Wide Web. You can also use a 2-pound bread loaf recipe and simply halve all the ingredients. This is a quick and dirty way to get down to a 1-pound bread machine recipe.
Another option is to buy a bread machine recipe book, such as Bread Machine Magic, that has 1-lb bread loaf recipes within its pages (buy the book on Amazon – paid link).
The single kneading paddle leaves a small hole in the bottom of the 1-lb bread loaf. This Zojirushi mini bread maker does not have a collapsible kneading blade.
It usually produces an almost square shaped loaf. If it rises higher before baking, it looks vertical. It definitely does not make a horizontal bread loaf. Only bread machines with a horizontal baking pan can do that.
You can get about 8 slices from a 1-lb bread loaf made in the Zojirushi mini bread maker. You might get 6 thick slices and 10 very thin slices.
I think that the Zojirushi BB-HAC10 is one of the best small bread makers for making 1-pound loaves. It is unfortunately also one of the most expensive 1-lb loaf bread machines on the market (check price on Amazon – paid link).
Zojirushi BB-SSC10 1-lb Loaf Mini Bread Maker
Similar to the Zojirushi BB-HAC10, the Zojirushi BB-SSC10 is a mini bread maker with a 1-pound loaf size capacity. Unlike the BB-HAC10 model, the Zojirushi BB-SSC10 model has an automatic nut and ingredients dispenser, and a gluten-free menu program.
In fact, it has 15 menu courses, including the adjustable Homemade course setting, which allows you to save your own adjusted knead, rise and bake times. Although, the Zojirushi BB-SSC10 does not have a viewing window, because the nut dispenser would prevent you from seeing into the baking chamber.
In brief, the Zojirushi BB-SSC10 Home Bakery Maestro really is the Maestro when it comes to 1-pound loaf bread makers, for the reason that it has both an automatic fruit and nut dispenser, and a customizable Homemade menu setting. Of course, all this comes at a high price, seeing as this is a Zojirushi mini bread maker, but it should be worth the money for the serious bread machine user (check price on Amazon – paid link).
Briskind BM8605 1.5-lb Small Bread Maker
If you still want a compact bread maker, but want to occasionally bake a slightly larger 1.5-lb loaf, then you might take a look at the Briskind BM8605 1.5-lb bread maker. This small bread maker has both 1-lb and a 1.5-lb loaf size options, with the usual three crust color settings.
Furthermore, it offers 19 menu programs, including settings such as Gluten Free, Rye, Multigrain, Sugar Free, Low Carb, and Sourdough Starter. Moreover, it also has menu programs such as Knead Only, Rise Only, and Bake Only.
Of course, I have never heard of the Briskind brand name before, but that is probably due to it only being founded in 2013, according to the website. Therefore, I cannot comment on quality, customer service or replacement parts.
In the short run, the Briskind BM8605 is a small bread maker that makes up to a 1.5-lb loaf size, that should be easy to use, and should produce small, tasty bread loaves (buy on Amazon – paid link).
Dash 1.5-Lb Small Bread Maker With Automatic Dispenser
Before you dash out to the nearest supermarket to buy a loaf of bread, why not consider making your own bread at home with the Dash DBM150GBBK01 1.5 lb bread maker? This small bread maker has a maximum loaf size capacity of 1.5 pounds.
This Dash bread machine features 12 menu programs, including options such as Whole Wheat, Artisan Dough, Gluten Free, and Ultra Fast. In particular, this small Dash bread maker has an automatic dispenser for dropping extra ingredients into the dough at the right moment.
In fact, I think that this Dash 1.5 lb bread maker and the Zojirushi BB-SSC10 are the only small bread machines that have an automatic fruit and nut dispenser. There might be other examples, but I am unaware of them.
To sum up, the Dash DBM150GBBK01 is a small 1.5 lb bread maker that should be easy to use for making small bread loaves, even though its display screen is kind of small and difficult to read, which is probably to be expected on a very compact bread machine. SKG Very Small Loaf Size Bread Maker
This small SKG bread maker seems to be a mostly unknown product that does not have a lot of reviews. I did not know about the SKG mini bread maker until I came across it during my initial search for tiny 1-pound loaf bread machines.
This small bread maker from SKG can bake two loaf sizes in its nonstick coated baking pan: a 0.7 lb to 0.9 lb loaf or a 1-lb to 1.3-lb loaf. It does not need much counter space and its size is perfect for one or two people.
The SKG 1-lb mini bread maker has 19 menu settings, which is a lot for such a tiny bread maker. It includes rare options such as Rice Bread, Corn Bread, Sticky Rice, Rice Wine and Yogurt. Its menu options for making bread are Basic, French, Sweet, Ultra-fast and Quick Bread. It also has options for Dough, Knead, or Bake.
Here is a list of its 19 menu options:
1. Basic
2. French
3. Sweet
4. Ultra-fast
5. Quick
6. Cake
7. Dessert
8. Rice Bread
9. Corn Bread
10. Purple Rice Bread
11. Gruel
12. Sticky Rice
13. Mix
14. Dough
15. Knead
16. Rice Wine
17. Yogurt
18. Jam
19. Bake
You might notice from the list that it does not have a gluten-free menu setting.
This very small bread machine has a 15-hour delay timer. As usual, do not use the delay timer for making 1-lb bread recipes that contain egg or milk that might spoil before it is baked.
I think that the SKG mini bread maker looks interesting (perhaps too much purple), but it is an obscure bread machine for very small loaves that I do not know at all. At the moment, it seems like it is unavailable, so you can probably just ignore it.
Conclusion
Overall, the Zojirushi BB-HAC10 is probably the most popular 1-lb mini bread maker, even though it costs more than expected for its one pound loaf size. I mean, it costs almost as much as the Zojirushi BB-CEC20, which is a 2-pound loaf bread machine.
In conclusion, I think that the Zojirushi BB-SSC10 is probably the best small loaf size bread maker, due to its 15 menu settings and automatic fruit and nut dispenser. You may read my Zojirushi BB-SSC10 review for an overview of this small 1-lb loaf size mini bread maker.
